Running After a Partial Knee Replacement PKR

Besides my previous blog about running after a knee replacement, here is some additional encouraging information I came across regarding activities and running after a partial knee replacement.

Please note at the end of page two, the comments about squats. Those who know me or follow my blog already are familiar with my thoughts on squats. Do NOT do them!  See my previous blogs on training and squats, and my next blog on personal trainers.

  1. Good to know that you have started running after your partial knee replacement. It's wonderful to see courage and would love to hear more from you.

  2. actually, I have now completed 6 marathons, and got my Boston Qualifier at St. George in October of 2012. I am now working on going sub 3:30, but not sure I can get there. you CAN run with a PKR. I do alot of extra work, and I try to be careful with load, speed and fatigue. Also, I have altered my downhill running on steeplechase courses. See Triple trail Challenge in Park City, UT, which I also complete every year, even months after surgery.

  4. Ed: If I ever plan to run again I must submit to a PKR. They are recommending a Makoplasty... any comments on that product? What did they implant in your knee? I HAVE TO RUN AGAIN !! It's been since Aug 2012 that I have gone from up to 50mpw to less than 1mi/wk. I am going crazy-- biking/swimming.. no! Running.. yes!! I was a 24min 5k'er at my best at age 53.. and while I only do 1/2 marathons, my best was 2h10seconds... I wanted to beat the 2hour mark but never got the chance due to OA. I now need emotional support and guidance on procedure so I can be alive again... thoughts??

  5. Hi TJ. Saw your blog. I believe Ishtar was directed by Elaine May. I had a computer assisted CONFOMIS knee by Dr. Phil Davidson, partners with Eric Heiden up in Park City, UT. I had my 3 year anniversary this weekend. Have run 8 marathons, including a BQ at St. George in October. Feel free to email me for mor info, and we can talk too if that would be helpful. runskiride@gmail.com
